This is an entertaining introduction to the world of Fine Waters. No tests or assignment. You can watch on your Mac/PC, Tablet or phone. Seven chapters with a total of 4 hours of Michael and Martin explaining: What is a Fine Water, Sources, Characteristics, Bottled Water Etiquette, Water and food pairings, watch a water tasting and get an introduction to some iconic brands of the category. Each video is accompanied by some links and information to further explore the beautiful world of Fine Waters.
After finishing the course you will receive a "Fine Water 101" Certificate.
The Water Service Certification is designed for Brand Managers, F&B managers, Wine Sommeliers, Waiters and others working in HORECA. Water can be a proven revenue center for a restaurant and a Water Service Certification will add significant value to any resume in the hospitality industry. The course consists of 10 video lectures ( > 5 hours), additional reading and links and 28 tests. Successful candidates will receive a Water Service Certification. We estimate the course to take 2-4 weeks depending on commitment. If you have already taken the Fine Water 101 we will credit the tuition fee towards this course.
Successful candidates will receive the Water Sommelier Certification.
So, you want to be a Water Sommelier! Train with the people that created the category and worked in the profession. A series of courses will give you the FOUNDATION and ADVANCED knowledge to prepare you for your CERTIFICATION process with Martin and Michael. The course will take 2-3 month to complete, depending on the candidates commitment and schedule. If you have already taken the Water Service Certification we will credit the tuition fee towards the sommelier training.
Successful candidates will receive the Water Sommelier Certification and a membership in the Fine Water Society.
The courses is self-paced and you can start/stop any time. No travel required. The academy is wherever you are on a desktop/laptop/tablet or phone.
All segments of the course include a video (10 – 40 minutes) of us explaining the topic in detail. Additionally we provide links to further in depth study of topics raised. Depending on the course levels, segments are followed by a test and or assignment. Assignments consist of written and audio-visual content to be generated. You will need a Google/Youtube account and some familiarity in creating short video and images on your phone for the Certified Water Sommelier course level.

This course will focus on practical knowledge derived from a decade of experience on the frontline of the trend. We want you to have a contemporary understanding of the whole premium category, its brands and its epicurean and social context. We also want to train Water Sommeliers that are able to communicate the knowledge. We have special course segments on social media training as we firmly believe that communicating your knowledge in a modern way is as important as having the knowledge.
Tastings of waters will be conducted and assigned during the course and we are using major brands available around the globe but also encourage you to include local premium brands in your tasting and assignments.
In 2010 Martin Riese received his certification as a Mineral Water Sommelier from the German Mineral Water Trade Association. In 2013 he unveiled his signature water program at Ray's & Stark Bar at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and in 2014 at the Patina Restaurant in the Walt Disney Concert Hall. In Summer 2014 he launched the Water 101 Class, where Riese educates students on the unique qualities and characteristics of mineral water. Michael created FineWaters in 2002 and is one of the original founders of the Fine Water Society in 2008 . He helped create the premium category and tells the story that 'water is not just water' that is has terroir like wine, can be matched with food and curated by water sommeliers. Michael's global audience consist of F&B professionals, consumers, distributors, media as well as premium brands. We have been asked many times in the past to share our knowledge and excitement about Fine Waters.
We have both done this through all possible media channels, from tastings to seminars, speeches and training. We both have an extensive online presence and knowledge base as well as and a large audience.
The Fine Water Academy LMS (Learning Management System) will now allow us to do this in a structured way and educate and certify the next generation of Water Sommeliers and train HORECA for a proper water service.
